CBD Dosage: Finding The Right Dose For You

CBD Dosage: Finding The Right Dose For You

Nov 12th 2019

CBD has become extremely popular, and the benefits of Cannabidiol are widely shared. However, you may have noticed that there is not much information on how much to take and the correct dosage. So, how much should you take? Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to finding the exact dosage of CBD. Since CBD products are not regulated by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) there are many different types of products with different concentrations and quality of CBD. Additionally, many factors can effect your dosage such as:

  • Your body weight
  • Your body chemistry
  • The condition you're treating
  • The type of CBD product you're using
  • The concentration of CBD in the product you're using

While there are a lot of components that can effect your dosage amount, finding the right dose for you is not impossible. Check out the tips below to help you find the right dose of CBD for you.

Tips For Finding The Best CBD Dosage For You

1. Consult Your Doctor

It is always a good idea to consult your doctor first when incorporating supplemental treatments into your daily routine. Your doctor can provide recommendations on appropriate dosages and potential risks of using CBD. This is especially important depending on the condition you are treating and if you are taking other forms of prescription medication along with it. There are some forms of prescription medication that CBD can negatively effect when taken simultaneously such as Clobazam and Valproate. Some medications even contain CBD already such as Epidolax which is used to treat Epilepsy.

2. Start Low and Build Your Dose Accordingly

If your doctor is unable to provide a recommendation or you simply do not feel comfortable talking about using CBD products with your healthcare provider, starting at a low dose is the best option. It is recommended to start at a dose of 20mg - 40mg and taking it when needed. For example, if you are taking CBD to treat anxiety then you should take the CBD when you are feeling most anxious. If you do not achieve any results, slightly increase your dosage. Eventually you will be able to pinpoint the correct amount that you need to incorporate the treatment into your daily life.

3. Follow a Recommended Dosage Chart Based on Body Weight

Since body weight can significantly affect the dosage, following a dosage chart based on body weight is a great option. However, not every CBD product has the same concentrations of cannabidiol or the same quality cannabidiol. It is recommended to research the product you're buying and asking the manufacturer the recommended dose for that product. The majority of high-quality CBD manufacturers will provide a chart based on their specific CBD products. Here at Long Beach Hemp Co., we have put together a recommended dosage chart for our products below.

How To Measure Out Your Dose Based On Individual CBD Products

Just like any form of medication, you have to calculate and measure out your dosage of CBD based on the product you are using. Below we have put together instructions on how to measure out the dose on a product by product basis.

Tinctures and Oils

Most Tinctures and Oils on the market today are available in 30ml bottles that contain a 1ml dropper. While this can vary, you will still be able to measure out your dose with the correct information. You need to know the volume of the CBD oil and tincture as well as the volume of the dropper.

If the oil or tincture does not come equipped with a dropper, you can easily purchase one from your local pharmacy or market. Using a 1ml dropper is the most accurate way to measure tinctures and oils as you will know exactly how much oil you are getting each time.

If you have both of these components, measuring out your dose is very simple. To find your dose, you simply divide the amount of milligrams of CBD in your product by the volume of the bottle.

Topicals

Measuring the amount of CBD in topicals is very similar to tinctures and oils. However, it can be quite tricky to measure the exact amount since you may not be able to perfectly measure out one milliliter of a cream or lotion. Topicals are typically used to treat pain and arthritis, so finding the exact amount is not as important since you will be able to notice effects in a short-period of time.

Most creams and lotions such as the Long Beach Hemp Co. CBD Joint & Muscle Rub expel 1ml (or 1/4 teaspoon) of product per pump. So, you will be able to get a close estimate of the amount of CBD you are receiving. Just like tinctures and oils, you only need to divide the milligram of CBD in the product by the volume of the container it is in.

Vape

Measuring out the amount of CBD in a vape product can vary depending on the product. Everyone consumes vape products at their own pace, so figuring out the amount of CBD per puff can be nearly impossible. However, vaping CBD is the fastest way to achieve results. This means you will quickly be able to tell if you have gotten enough without worrying if you took too much. You can also estimate the amount that you are receiving by keeping up with amount of time it takes for you to vape through a single cartridge or tank.

Measuring the amount of CBD you are receiving in each cartridge or tank is the same as tinctures, oils, and topicals. Pre-filled CBD vape products typically contain only 1ml of oil, so you will not have to divide the milligram of CBD by volume unless a different volume is stated. If you are purchasing CBD vape juice rather than pre-filled vape products, you can measure the amount of CBD in your vape by the volume of your juice reservoir.

Edibles

CBD Edibles are the easiest way to measure the amount of CBD you are taking in, because the packages usually contain the individual dose already on them. If you are buying a pack of gummies or candies that do not tell you how much is in each individual CBD gummy or candy, finding the CBD amount is super easy.
